Parklands sits on the coastal side of Cape Town's northern suburbs, and it has grown into a dense mix of residential complexes and retail: convenience centres, strip malls and standalone stores serving a large resident population rather than passing trade.

We are being straightforward about where we are with it. Our contract at Ultra Liquor in Parklands is signed and the site starts shortly — officers are not posted there yet as this is written. Parklands is a new area for us, and we would rather say so than imply a local history we do not have. If a provider's location page does not draw that distinction, ask them which sites in the suburb are actually theirs today.

Retail security is a different discipline from the estate and industrial work that makes up most of what we do, and it is worth being clear why. On an estate the task is to control who gets in. In a store the public is invited in, all day, and the officer's job is observation, deterrence and judgement at the door — not refusal. An officer who treats a shop like a gatehouse costs the client customers.

A liquor retailer concentrates that further. The stock is high-value, resalable and easy to move, cash is handled on site, and the risk is not evenly spread through the day: opening and closing, delivery windows and the hour before close are where incidents cluster. Most loss in retail leaves through the front door or the receiving bay during legitimate activity, not through a forced lock overnight — which is the same pattern we see on distribution sites, where the exposure is in movement that is supposed to be happening.

We do not have an office in Parklands. Management, control room and dispatch are at 38 Platinum Park in Brackenfell, on the other side of the northern suburbs, and for a retail contract what matters is supervision frequency and whether someone answers at 21:00, not a pin on a map.

Who we usually deal with here: store owners, franchisees and centre managers. Every quotation starts with a site visit — trading hours, till positions, stockroom layout and the receiving bay decide the post plan, and none of that can be judged over the phone.
